Over one billion dollars’ worth of rare coins and currency will be on display August 13-17, 2019 at the American Numismatic Association’s annual World’s Fair of Money at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center next to Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport in Rosemont, Illinois.
The annual convention features all things related to coin collecting and draws thousands of collectors from around the world. Attendees can find out what their old coins and paper money might be worth, build their collections from the best numismatic inventory available anywhere, and participate in live auctions with Heritage Auctions (ha.com) and Stack's Bowers Galleries (stacksbowers.com). More than 500 dealers from across the nation will be on the showroom floor buying, selling and trading.
See a Million-Dollar Penny
Exhibits will include a rare 1943 bronze Lincoln cent that sold for over a million dollars as well as a mis-struck 1913 Liberty Head Nickel, one of only 5 specimens known to exist and, at an estimated $3 million value, among the most valuable coins in the world.
Visitors also can see the first public exhibit of a recently discovered $2 million California Gold Rush-era gold coin, as well as displays of a fabled 1804-dated U.S. silver dollar insured for $4 million, historic ancient coins, and examples of $1 through $100 bills mistakenly printed with various errors, such as upside down or entirely missing serial numbers.
The US Bureau of Engraving and Printing will showcase high denomination paper money including $100,000 bills and a $500 million Treasury Note, and the United States Mint will offer its latest collectible coins.
Mix and Mingle with Fellow Hobbyists
The convention also offers lectures and seminars presented by some of the leading names in the hobby, kids’ activities and abundant opportunities for networking and fellowship.
The fair isn’t limited to numismatic experts. Plenty of hobbyists and beginning collectors attend too, and there’s ample opportunity to mix and mingle. The schedule is packed with presentations, lunches, and dinners, and time to socialize and get to know people who share your interests.
A children's treasure trivia game will be offered during the show, and youngsters—as well adults—can put their face as the portrait on the front of a $100,000 bill.
